Yeah thats right, I am in Japan. I am sitting in my hotel room, it's almost midnight here (9hours time difference). Maybe I haven't mentioned it before, but my grant proposal for a Japan trip to RIKEN in Yokohama was successfull. So I did fly on Monday to Japan to present Ondex to our Japanese friends and learn more about their systems. It was a 12 hours flight with BritishAirways, I had booked Economy Premium and had a great seat 12a with lots of leg space. Although I could sleep some hours during the flight, nevertheless I am very jet lagged. This is my second day in the sunny and warm Japan, I have given the presentation and a live demo of Ondex, which went really well. Norio's group is very nice. We went out twice for dinner to japanese restaurants where we had lots of raw fish and sake :). My impression of Japan is right now: 1) it is very colorfull and comic alike, 2) places are crowded and people often in a rush, 3) lots of men in suits and girls in uniforms wearing mouth protections on the street and 4) the Yen is very strong so prices are looking quite high. The plan for the next days are setting up a long term collaboration with Japan and try visiting Tokyo. Sayonara!
